25yd Indoor Competitions
Outdoor competitions are held throughout the summer months in a variety of ranges around the country. The majority of shoots are held in East Coast Shooting Club, Dublin Rifle Club and the Midlands National Target Shooting Centre of Ireland. For these competitions, the shooter must deal with changing weather conditions in addition to shooting at a distance of 50 metres.
These competitions are run using the 2013 ISSF Rules and Guidelines for 50m Outdoor. Most competitions will be run using paper targets which mean details must be split up into three parts. The shooter is allowed 25 minutes for unlimited sighter shots in addition to taking 20 competition shots. Following this, the paper targets must be changed and the shooter proceeds to take another 20 competition shots with unlimited sighters. This is repeated once more until 60 competition shots have been taken. For the past 3 years, the 50m National Championships have been run using electronic targets provided by the Defence Forces Shooting Team.
Medals are awarded at each competition for the overall competition winners along with the winners in each class. This allows novices shooters the chance to win medals while they are classed amongst shooters with similar experience. If you are interested in entering an outdoor smallbore comepetition, we recommend you try out the indoor comeptitions over the next few months. This wil give you plenty of preparation for the outdoor competitions.
